ASCCA commemorates 20 January martyrs

Academy of the State Customs Committee hosted a commemoration event dedicated to the 33rd  anniversary of January 20 tragedy.

The executives, employees and students of the Academy,as well as, Deputy Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) of  Sabunchu district, Zulfugar Jafarov, the witness of  January 20 tragedy, the chairman of the "20 January" Public Union of Binagadi district, Mubariz Ismayilov, and members of  "Customs Volunteer" took part in the event.

The National Anthem of Azerbaijan was sounded at the beginning of the event. A minute of silence was observed to honor the memory of the martyrs ,who fought for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity. Later, a video dedicated to the January 20 tragedy was shown .

The head of the Academy, Major General of the Customs Service, Gulu Novruzov, made an introductory speech, and noted  that this tragedy is not only a memory of blood in the history of Azerbaijan's independence, but also a page of honor and pride.

Speaking about the history of the tragedy happened in Baku 33 years ago, G. Novruzov said that the true political and legal assessment of the events of January 20 was given only after the National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s return to power.

The speaker stressed that the blood of all our martyrs, including the victims of the January 20 tragedy, did not remain on the ground with the liberation of our lands from occupation and the waving  of our tricolor flag in our native Karabakh thanks to the "Iron Fist" operation in the 44-day Patriotic War under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Mr. Ilham Aliyev.

The head of the academy advised students to learn more about the tragedies that befell the people of Azerbaijan and the glorious past of our nation and drew attention to the importance of passing on a history full of heroism and victories to future generations.

At the end of his speech, Gulu Novruzov wished mercy to all the martyrs who died for the restoration of the territorial integrity of our country, and health to the veterans.

The deputy chairman of NAP of  Sabunchu district , Zulfugar Jafarov, spoke about the genocides that the Azerbaijani people suffered throughout history, the movement started for the freedom of our people, the horror of the January 20 crime, and noted that they could not suppress the spirit of freedom of the people in this genocide. In the end, Z. Jafarov, talked about the care of the government for the families of martyrs and veterans, and highly appreciated the activity of the Academy in the direction of constantly remembering the dear memories of our martyrs and promoting patriotism.

Speaking at the event as a living witness of the bloody night, Mubariz Ismayilov spoke about the social and political situation at that time and emphasized that even though 33 years have passed since the January 20 tragedy, those difficult days are forever etched in the memory of each of us.

M. Ismayilov, sharing his memories of the tragedy with the participants, marked this date as the first peak of Azerbaijan's path to independence, the awakening of the desire for freedom of our national ideology.

Following the event, students of the Academy spoke about the causes and consequences of the       January 20 tragedy and recited patriotic poems
